WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE 33 DAY LIGHTEN UP?

To begin with - I can't sleep!  I've been home since Tuesday (2 nights) and am wide awake (tired) until 5:00 in the morning.  What the PHO?  Finally falling asleep from 5:00 AM to 10:30 AM is not enough sleep. Then I'm exhausted all day.  JET LAG is a problem.  Crossing four time zones can mess up your circadian rhythms, and taking a RED EYE FLIGHT doubles the trouble. I felt like a wimp until I read these Travel Tips from USA Today.    http://traveltips.usatoday.com/long-over-jet-lag-63114.html

BASIC RULE OF THUMB:  Factor in one day of recovery for every time zone shifted. From the East Coast of the U.S. to Europe, a six-hour time difference, you can thus expect six days to recover fully, which might well be the entire length of your trip. As it is accepted that jet lag exhibits harsher symptoms during eastward travel due to lost sleep, this long recovery rate typically applies in the eastbound direction. For westbound flights, expect one day of recovery per one and a half time zones. This basic calculation might not hold true for every person in every situation, and applies to full circadian rhythm reset. Travelers typically are functional in their new time zone within one to two days with adequate rest.

 

Après Red-Eye Flights

As the name suggests, red-eye overnight flights can worsen the effects of jet lag due to increased fatigue from lost sleep. Red-eyes typically fly west to east, so travelers already are losing several hours of sleep due to the time change alone. Uncomfortable sleeping conditions and the few available sleeping hours between dinner service and landing exacerbate the sleep deprivation. Despite these downsides, red-eye flights actually allow you to adjust more quickly in certain ways. You land in the morning in your new destination, allowing your body to experience a full day of sunlight and normal meal times in your new time zone. Don't expose yourself to bright light until 10 a.m. or go to sleep before 9 p.m. to receive the benefits of a full first day.

 

NOW WHAT? 

Other than lack of sleep, being back in Virginia, at Renova - life is easier with our amazing new gym: Fitness Norfolk.  While in Alaska, I missed the ZERO-IMPACT RUNNER, the personal-trainers: JEANETTE & WILLY; along with the location of the gym.  You can't get into the Renova building without passing the gym.  No personal motivation needed - they have plenty for you.  They love what they do - helping others be healthy, and it shows on their faces, and physics.  Just show up and you will be infected with their enthusiasm. 

 

It is also easier to find the foods we need and have come to love, to continue the healthy eating program we have lived with for the past 33 days.  Although, Fred Meyers in Alaska was awesome, establishing new relationships in local food chains found here, is fun.    

 

It is difficult not having Lynne around.  We cheered each other on, shared the food prep work, and kitchen clean-up; and watched our favorite movie: THE PHILADELPHIA STORY.  We must have watched it 100 times.  Perfect movie as we watched Tracy Lord (Katharine Hepburn) lighten up her life and make changes that would have impressed SCROOGE.

 

But Lynne and I are still texting each other - sharing new things we are adding and trying, along with weight loss numbers.  Here's her latest message: "Down another 8.5 pounds and Just ate some jicama and organic hummus. Also got dandelion greens"  YUM.  She rocks.  

 

Going to Renova every day again, means I have to be more prepared for the day than when we had all our healthy-stuff with us in the TINY CONDO.  Here, I have to use a bigger lunch box.  I found the perfect one made by IGLOO.  It has wheels and a handle.  Sweet.  

 

Now, this is how I ROLL.  My Little-Lunch-Box is packed with smoothies, veggies, guacamole, jicama, cut up celery, papaya, bananas, kiwis, dates, and whatever else I need to sustain my brain through the day.  

 

 

 

You can do this too.  It just takes some extra planning and buying a bigger lunch box.  Try it; you'll like it.  You'll especially like releasing weight, fat, brain fog, old-age, sadness, addictions, bad habits, dis-ease, pain and lack of exercise.
