Reset - Part I

What is the number one detrimental health habit occurring today? You might be surprised.

This number one problem is the one thing every health-system or industry has in common. It is recommended and done in pharmaceutical, science and integrative - eastern and western medicines. It is done by Dr. Marcus Welby types, Prevention magazine, medical journals, white papers, mediums, research, grandma's, mom's, witchdoctors and each and every one of us on a daily basis. It is the hot topic of the day when hurricanes, floods, fires, earth quakes and terrorists aren't barreling down our necks.

We spend tremendous amounts of time, energy and money searching for this number one detrimental health habit, so we can live by it (more like - stop living because of it) and talk about it incessantly - defining ourselves by the title we "earned."

Have you figured it out yet? The number one detrimental health habit is .... Symptoms: diagnosis and treatments.

Pharmaceutical, science and integrative medicines - along with individual individuals - search for and treat: Symptoms. And how is this "working" for us? Are we happier, safer or healthier?

This search does work in making each industry tons of money - the greatest profits being found in pharmaceutical and now, nutraceutical industries - but if pursuing a diagnosis so we can take their products really worked why would Americans be living sick and dying young? That's right. Contrary to what we are being told, Americans are NOT living longer, we are SUFFERING longer.

Americans shell out more dollars on healthcare than any other country in the world - 75 percent of those dollars go towards the diagnosing and treating of chronic diseases: Heart Disease and Cancer still at the top of list.

1. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention - chronic diseases are compromising Americans’ quality of life and disabling people for long periods of time.

2. Cancer is still the number one cause of death in Americans.

3. Americans are dying younger and ending up in assisted living with chronic disabilities in their 20's and 30's. Never before have we seen 20 and 30 year olds living in "old folks homes."

4. No one is talking about the fact that we have traded low numbers of people with polio for HIGH numbers of people suffering from other chronic diseases such as arthritis, diabetes, Hashimoto's, Lyme, dementia, Alzheimer's, Fibromyalgia, Cancer, heart disease, etc. The list goes on and on. It seems that polio is not gone, we have just renamed it, many times.

So how do we get off this insane train of pain, suffering and dying young? Move to another country? Why is there so much dis-ease in our great country?

Maybe we are barking up the wrong tree.

What would happen if we stopped spending all our time, energy and money on finding and treating symptoms? If we stopped wasting precious time searching for cures and began living for the sake of LIFE? Is it even possible at this late date?

First, slow down. Take a break. Breathe. Put some distance between the stimulus (symptoms) and response (searching for a cure). Do this so you can begin to think differently.

RESET the way we think - think about what we can do to CREATE health and not FIGHT symptoms. Get back to the basics. The foundation of health. Do we even remember what that is?

Remember the KISS acronym for "Keep it simple, stupid?" This was a design principle noted by the U.S. Navy in 1960. The KISS principle states that most systems work best if they are kept simple rather than made complicated; therefore simplicity should be a key goal in design and unnecessary complexity should be avoided - in all things - especially long term health.

RESET - to think differently because our current modus of operandi isn't working. RESET. How? We thought you'd never ask. Stay tuned for Part II. For now, just consider the possibility.
