First, notice by just adding a simple hyphen, we are renaming and reframing the word "disease" which is a scary, austere word/condition. By doing this, we obliterate the fear of catching an uncontrollable horrific situation that requires intervention by medical attention - often painful and not a guaranteed cure.
"Dis-ease" is the body not at ease. That's all. Seldom a death sentence or a situation that requires panic or painful treatments. Dis-ease shouldn't be ignored but what does need to happen is lifestyle changes, healthy conditions of the body, and the building or strengthening of the immune system.
By the way, disease is described by dictionary.com as a scary noun - causing fright or alarm:
a disordered or incorrectly functioning organ, part, structure, or system of the body resulting from the effect of genetic or developmental errors, infection, poisons, nutritional deficiency or imbalance, toxicity, or unfavorable environmental factors; illness; sickness; ailment.
any abnormal condition in a plant that interferes with its vital physiological processes, caused by pathogenic microorganisms, parasites, unfavorable environmental, genetic, or nutritional factors, etc.
any harmful, depraved, or morbid condition, as of the mind or society:His fascination with executions is a disease.
decomposition of a material under special circumstances:tin disease.
Which condition would you choose if you knew you had a choice? Of course, we would select a dis-ease. That word empowers. Dis-ease needs a bit of attention, requires some education, and of course, the possibility of changing "habits, attitudes, tastes, moral standards, economic levels, etc., that constitute the mode of living of an individual or group."

Figuring out the answers to these two questions changes the playing field and puts the individual in the driver's seat. The answers are more simple than you might expect, and "medicine" has made this way too complicated.
So, what causes the body not to be at ease? Being out of balance.
NOTE: In balance = healthy. Out of balance = unhealthy.
When should we intervene? The sooner the better.
